MD, MRCP (UK), CCST (UK) in Respiratory Medicine, FRCP (London)
I trained in Respiratory Medicine atPapworth Hospital and Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge, the pioneering, state-of-the-art heart-lung centre in the UK, largely recognized then as one of the best in the world, as well as in West Suffolk Hospital, Bury. St. Edmunds. Apart from general respiratory training I worked in the Heart and Lung Transplant unit, the Pulmonary Hypertension unit, the Allergy and Immunology unit and Thoracic Oncology. I did 18 months of training and research in sleep medicine, non-invasive ventilation and weaning from mechanical ventilation. I also trained, for a while, in the adult Cystic Fibrosis/ Bronchiectasis unit.
After getting my CCST in respiratory medicine I worked as a consultant in respiratory and general medicine for 1 year before returning to India in 2001. I subsequently returned to the UK for a 4-month consultant post in 2005.
I set up the Respiratory Medicine department of Salt Lake AMRI Hospital (then Suraksha Hospital), with the help of my team members. At my current facility now, we have an integrated Respiratory Medicine and Pulmonary Function Laboratory and a Bronchoscopy suite.
My spectrum of patients include severely ill intensive care patients with ARDS and other varieties of respiratory failure and post-acute, non-invasive ventilation together with the usual and more common asthmatic, pneumonia and COPD patients. My special interest in thoracic radiology has resulted in excellent liaison with radiology services. We provide specialist care in rarer conditions like Interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension and bronchiectasis. My special interests also include Pulmonary and Venous Thromboembolism and Sleep Disturbances including Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
